Hořice na Šumavě

The village of Hořice na Šumavě is situated at the altitude of 620 m above the sea level and higher and higher up at the border of the Protected Landscape Area of Šumava. Archaeological fi ndings witness that the area was settled in the times 1400 B.C. However the history of the village starts from the second half of the 13th century. The first written mention about Hořice comes from 1272. Recently the village is inhabited by 810 citizens. Hořice na Šumavě is listed as a town monumental zone with 27 protected monuments (church, town-houses on the square, a system of 7 fountains and a pillory). Since 1816 Hořice has been famous for its traditional Passion play. If you want to fi nd more information about the history of this village and the Passion play of Hořice, you should visit the museum situated on the square or have a stroll on the nature path.
