The town of Horní Planá, with more than 2,200 inhabitants, spreads in South Bohemia at the foothills of Šumava on the left bank of Lipno Lake at an altitude of 726 – 914 m. Virgin nature, a beautiful lake and a large variety of breathtaking views at landscape and picturesque creeks make the place absolutely irresistible for tourists who can stay in hotels, pensions, family accommodation, chalets and apartments with the total capacity of 2,400 beds. For those who prefer camping, the area off ers several camp sites. Czech and European cuisine is served in local pubs and restaurants. The area benefi ts from excellent traffi c accessibility (by car, train or by bus). Town visitors can park their cars right on the square or at the car park with 500 parking places situated 100 m far from the town’s beach. The surroundings of the town can be proud of the extent network of tourist and cycling paths. The town’s history reaches the year 1349 when the original settlement became thanks to the Czech king Charles IV a markettown.

During summer months it is possible to take advantage of the transport system “Cyklotrans” (transport of cyclists with their bicycles in several routes from České Budějovice up to Kvilda) or special carriages of ČD (Czech Railways) transporting bicycles. In the winter the cross-country tracks are well maintained. But the unforgettable experience is defi nitely provided by skating on the frozen lake. In the proximity of the town you can fi nd well accessible ski areas Lipno nad Vltavou and Hochficht.
