Nová Pec

Nová Pec, a former settlement known for timber industry which history is closely related to timber harvesting and its treatment, today a recreational village, is situated at an altitude of 750 m above the sea level. About 600 inhabitants live in seven settlements. In the surrounding of the village we can fi nd many historical and tourist places of interests. That is why this area attracts many visitors. Among remarkable historical monuments we can namely precise the Church of St. Anne, a cultural monument with an old German cemetery situated in the settlement called Pěkná and the unique technical monument which is represented by the Schwarzenberk Navigation Channel, a unique hydro engineering structure of the European importance connecting basins of the rivers Vltava and Danube.
