Přední Výtoň

The fi rst references about the origin of this settlement are linked to the year 1357, when the Order of Saint Paul established a monastery, lately converted to the church which hasn’t changed its feature and appearance since. Settlers from South Tyrol came to this original settlement and started their diffi cult battle against the wild nature of Šumava in order to gain agricultural land. Until 1945 the area was inhabited by approximately 1,200 people, formed mostly by Germans, who were expatriated after the Second World War and their villages completely razed to the ground. The settlement was repopulated by the citizens of diff erent nationality. The present area 10 consists of the following settlements Svatý Tomáš, Frýdava and Pasečná and almost all its territory is situated in the Protected Landscape Area of Šumava. Regarding the fact that some parts of these settlements were completely uninhabited and inaccessible until 1989, the nature remained practically untouched by civilisation. At this moment Přední Výtoň has become an important tourist holiday centre, the accommodation capacity has increased as well as a number of diff erent restaurants and other places where you can by refreshments which will content a large number of visitors. There are about 200 inhabitants permanently residing in this settlement but during the winter and summer season the place revives by hundreds of tourists. Přední Výtoň is a starting point for ramblers and cyclists going to the settlement called Svatý Tomáš where you can fi nd a ruin of the former guard castle “Vítkův Kámen” (1053 m above the sea level) with a platform off ering the best view of the countryside.
